It’s important to know what steps you need to take to prepare yourself for your laser hair removal treatment. AND what you need to do afterwards to achieve the best results from your treatment.
Pre Treatment Instructions:
- Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and after treatment, until your therapist allows it.
- You MUST avoid bleaching, plucking or waxing the hair for 6 weeks prior to the treatment.
- If there is any change in your medical history, please contact your laser technician immediately.
- TANNED SKIN CANNOT BE TREATED! If treated, you will have hypopigmentation, (white spots) and this may not clear for 2-3 months or more. Also, the use of tanning cream must be discontinued 2 weeks before your treatment, all tan must be removed before treatment.
Post Treatment Care:
- Immediately after the treatment, there may be erythema (redness) and oedema (swelling) of the treatment area, which may last up to 2 hours, or longer. The erythema may last up to 2-3 days. The treated area may feel warm for a few hours after the treatment. Aloe vera gel may be applied to the treated area to reduce any discomfort.
- All forms of exercise should be avoided for 24 hours after the treatment.
- Make-up may be applied to the area after the treatment, minimal make-up is advised.
- Avoid sun exposure (including sunbeds) to reduce the chance of hypopigmentation or darker pigmentation. Use sunscreen at all times during the course of treatments.
- Avoid picking or scratching the treated area. Do not use any other hair removal treatment products or similar treatments (waxing, electrolysis or tweezing) that will disturb the hair follicle on the treatment area for 4-6 weeks after the laser treatment is performed. Shaving is the only method of hair removal that can be used while receiving this treatment.
- All heat treatments (inc. showers, baths, steam and sauna) should be avoided for 24 hours after treatment.
- Anywhere from 5-14 days after having this treatment, shedding of the hair may occur and this appears as new hair growth. This is not new hair growth. You can clean and remove the hair by washing or wiping the area with a wet cloth or loofah sponge.
- After the underarms are treated, use a powder instead of deodorant for 24 hours after the treatment to reduce skin irritation.
